Anyone know gas struts (springs) props?

I am struggling to rig the support for a cabin hatch and am frustrated by the several Gas struts I've bought so far.

Is there such a thing as a long stroke strut? The struts I have all have strokes that are essentially 1/2 the compressed length.

For example, The Attwood struts I have now have a 5.25" compressed length (measured ball socket to ball socket) and a total stroke of 2.5". Total expressed length is just under 7.5".

What would be great is a strut that is about 7.5" compressed length with a 4 or 5 (or longer?) inch stroke.

Does such a strut exist?

Yes, but you will likely have to go to an automotive one. If you can find an auto parts store that carries a selection you may be able to find one that does that, but it will be pretty strong too, so that could cause a problem with a lighter weight hatch on a boat.

Do they go by another name? I have done searches for Gas springs, struts and props and have not found much other than suspension parts.

Yea, I'm seeing the same thing. I'm guessing in this length, there isn't much strength with it extended that far out?

What it is called on that site so I can do the search?

When I look up automotive struts, they don't give lengths or strokes, just the model car that they fit on.
